CSS has been in relationship with Abel Learwellie, the founder of the Camp for Peace since 2011. What began through a horrific personal journey of being a child soldier, Abel has dedicated his life to Peace and helping other child soldiers become rehabilitated into their communities through the vocational training that is offered at this one room school house called Camp for Peace.
The skills that are learned at CFP include literacy, agriculture, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity, construction, sewing and running a business. From this model, they created a Cassava food processing plant from the cassava that is grown by local farmers and then is sold to their communities as one of their staple foods. They have begun construction on a Guest House to raise local funds for the sustainability of the CFP program. They received a grant and built 5 toilets for rural schools in Liberia. In two of these towns, the people walk up to 14 hours to get to the nearby town to buy food.
The work of CFP and the many classes that have now graduated, have resulted in other youth coming to participate in the vocational training. They are dedicated and passionate about what they are doing!
The continuation of support the work of Camp for Peace is vitally needed right now.
We need to raise $1,150 per month to support this amazing work!

“Again, this year Camp for Peace Liberia’s vocational training project is providing a new group of young people from Salayea and Zorzor the chance to learn agricultural skills. It is a ten-month program of theory and practice. The Camp for Peace vocational school itself is modest – a one-room brick structure with large wire mesh windows, a small storehouse, and some restrooms. It surrounds cassava fields, a chicken coop, and four fish ponds, where the students practice their skills throughout the planting-harvesting cycle. The vocational school breaks isolation and builds community. It represents a chance to learn together and in the future, a chance to work together to create livelihoods. The vocational school offers vulnerable youths a path to go beyond the subsistence agriculture prevalent in rural Liberia and represents hope in a region where there are few options. The school has been doing very well in terms of producing supplementary food like vegetables and fruits. Students' practical work has generated substantial vegetables and money from sales has significantly helped in providing feeding for them since May, but our vegetables and fruits finished from the farm.
Despite the effort, the school is now faced with a severe challenge and about to close due to outstanding salary owned teachers for the past three months (May – July 2018). The salary of 5 teachers is US$550.00 per month, and monthly feeding of students is US$600.00 per month totaling $1,150/month.
The breakdown of funds:
Supervisor - $150.00 per month
Assistant supervisor $150.00 per month
Campus security is $50.00
Two support staff paid $100 per month and
Management of the campus activities is $100 per month (this includes electricity, stationery, and mini transportation.
$600.00 used for students feeding (35 students)
This budget gives you a sense of how constraints we try to manage the little we have. It is tough, but I feel I should not give up on what I am doing.

Through this training you can see that there has been positive transformation showing maturity and responsibility. It speaks of the giant achievement of bringing people who were considered the least important to a society that rejected them to now being regarded as honorable contributors to their community! It speaks to the good work that is being done as more youth from the local villages also want to be a part of the program!
