I was introduced to a Non-Profit called Dustin’s GreenHouse by a colleague who had been working closely with them for years. Dustin’s GreenHouse is a non-profit that cultivates hope and opportunity in the lives of under-served and under-recognized high school students in Guilford County, where Greensboro resides, through unique global and service based learning programs and initiatives. I have been fortunate enough to work with this organization this year. Below is a link to their website
To cumulate this year’s international leadership and service training we will be taking a group of eleven incredible high school students to South Africa. We will be starting in Johannesburg and begin making our way through the coastal areas of South Africa. On this trip we will be working on ecological conservation projects and learning about social justice. Just to name a few of our service learning projects: we will be helping in orphanages in the Matamba White River area, Great White Shark Conservation, and a township immersion (homestay). We will go shark cage diving and help at Kruger National Park.
By supporting this campaign you will be supporting my travels to get to South Africa as well as funding portions of our service projects while over there. I will need the funds by May 1st. All funds will provide the educational experience of a lifetime for our students to learn things that could never be taught in a classroom. These are the opportunities I never had as a kid and wish more than anything that I got to experience. Bringing these experiences to my students are what drives me as a teacher and fuels my passion. I ask with great joy and anticipation that you would become a partner in this endeavor with me.
