Help Baby Parker Beat Cancer

Donation protected
Six months into a joyful life filled with fun Elmo videos, giggly peek-a-boos and splashy baths, Parker Johnson and his family faced a situation no baby should ever know. Following a routine check-up with his pediatrician, Parker (born March 14) was sent to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on Sept. 20. A few days later, Parker and his parents, Derek and Tiffany, received a diagnosis of hepatoblastoma, a malignant liver cancer.

The Johnson family initially encountered far more questions than answers but weeks of testing at C.H.O.P. established a plan for treatment. Parker began undergoing his first round of chemotherapy in early October, and this is only the beginning of a lengthy battle that will eventually lead him back to a normal, healthy childhood.

It's a fight that requires considerable financial investment, and the term "it takes a village" certainly applies to the support the Johnsons will need along the way. The cost of aggressive cancer treatment is unpredictable. Derek, a commercial fisherman, is setting aside long voyages on the sea to provide care for Parker and support for Tiffany.

Both parents are lifelong Cape May County, N.J., residents. Derek is a 2006 Middle Township High School graduate, while Tiffany (maiden name Pabon) graduated from Wildwood Catholic in 2004. They've made a home together in Cape May Court House.

The Johnson family can't wait to see Parker beat up cancer and they're extremely appreciative of support from the community, whether it's local loved ones or strangers from far away. On behalf of Parker, they want everyone to know their hearts are overwhelmed by your generosity, which will assist in the continued recovery from this tremendously difficult diagnosis.

Thank you. Together, we'll power Parker to a healthy and happy life.
