1/30/2019 Update: We've purchased a 1974 VW Bus! Our focus now is on getting it mechanically and cosmetically ready to be given to Dr. Joe in early May 2019. Thanks for your help in helping make this happen!!

Dr. Joe Brockinton has served over 35 years in Higher Education/Student Life. He has impacted thousands of lives during his career and continues to each day at Southern Wesleyan University (SWU). His sphere of influence and network of community are far reaching.
We'd like your help in blessing Dr. Joe with something from his glory years, era 1972-ish, that he would probably never do for himself.
Dr. Joe had a thing for VW buses and drove two different buses during the 1970's and early 80's. He survived a very serious accident in one of them – you may have heard him tell the story. He was driving from Florida to Kentucky in the 1970's to visit Willa during their engagement and fell asleep at the wheel. He wrecked the bus, laying it on its side and totaling the bus. Dr. Joe was very fortunately not seriously injured in the accident.
He's often told us stories of his buses. WE WANT TO BUY HIM A VW BUS to bless him for his life of investment in us (including you). Here's the plan:
We're asking for your help to come up with $15,000 to purchase and restore a 70's era VW bus similar to the one pictured above. We want to match the candy apple red/white paint and black interior of the bus that was totaled in the accident. $15,000 will buy a good foundation bus and allow some margin to get the bus cosmetically and mechanically sound. It will allow us to get Dr. Joe back behind the wheel of a bus that can be mechanically reliable and daily driver capable. If we go over $15,000 the bus will be proportionately nicer with the increase in the overall amount of money given.
For example purposes $15,000 can be raised if 150 give $100. Of course we'll accept any amount, higher or lower, and hope some of you will consider giving more. Each person who contributes will be added to a regular email update and encouraged to be present on the day we give Dr. Joe the bus. Please help us keep this off social media unless it’s private messaging. We will regularly update each person who contributes and communicate how the money is being spent. We will be accountable to you as part of this gift for Dr. Joe.
Our goal is to raise the money by January 30, 2019 so a bus can be purchased and restored by April 30, 2019. Our plan is to give the bus to Dr. Joe following SWU graduation on Saturday, May 4.
Jason Tegen and Kindel Thomas will oversee the funds, purchase of the bus and restoration process. Jason has a few local contacts in Central, SC who are experienced with VW restoration.
Please keep this off public social media and be very careful to not speak of it openly. It will be difficult, but possible, to pull this off while keeping it a surprise for Dr. Joe and Willa. We do not want Willa involved at all, but have involved Sam and Emily (Joe and Willa's children).
