My Journey With PRP: How It Started and Where I Am Now
On the 18th of October, my life changed overnight from what it was to what it is now i was admitted to hospital and remained there until the 22nd of November after being diagnosed with Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris (PRP) — a very rare skin disease that affects the entire body. While in hospital, I was also diagnosed with Erythroderma, which means more than 90% of my skin is bright red, inflamed, and unbearably itchy. This combination has left my skin cracked, peeling, burning, and extremely painful from head to toe. My hands and feet became so damaged that even simple movements or day-to-day tasks turned into major challenges.
During my hospital stay, I received treatment to try to stabilise the condition, but PRP doesn’t have a quick cure. There’s no clear timeline for recovery, and every day since has been part of a long, exhausting healing process. Now that I’m home, my daily routine is intense: two baths and a shower every day, soaking my hands and feet in dermatological bleach solutions to prevent tightening and cracking, and covering my entire body in ointments and thick paraffin emollients. I also have to wear wet, ointment-soaked tights under my clothes to manage the symptoms and protect my skin.
This illness has taken a huge toll not only on my body, but on my emotional and mental wellbeing. Being in pain, losing hair and fingernails brittle , and being unable to leave the house most days has been incredibly difficult to cope with. Before all of this, I was working right up until the day before I was hospitalised, so being unable to work for this long has caused serious financial strain on top of everything else.
To be completely honest, this has devastated me — physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. Asking for help isn’t something i wanted to do but any support, no matter how small, would make a meaningful difference towards the whole cost of this while I focus on healing and try to get my life back on track. Thank so much for donating it helped more than you think
Im very greatful for you for taking the time to read my story and for any kindness or support you’re able to give during this challenging time
