Pinuya Tree Nursery
Aldeia Pinuya, Huni Kui village located in Acre, Brazil would like to build a tree nursery to plant seedlings to reforest their land. The villages original tree nursery was destroyed in a storm a number of years ago and due to lack of funds has never been able to be re-built.
The funds are being raised for materials only to create a 10m x 10m tree nursery, this does not include labour costs. A full breakdown of materials is listed. The construction of the tree nursery will be carried out by residents of the village, and the children will be educated and learn methods of construction during this process.
The importance of this campaign has been highlighted by the current COVID-19 Pandemic. Pinuya Village is the smallest Huni Kuin indigenous land in the northern region of Acre and the villagers are currently suffering from a lack of food supplies due to the pandemic. To date, the 70 plus families that reside in Pinuya have made enormous efforts and progress over many years to reforest their land as well as planting crops and trees to provide food over 200 people that live in the village. Due to the size and location of their indigenous territory, they are unable to hunt in the forests or go to the river for fishing and therefore rely on other sources for cultivating food.
To avoid future crisis of food shortage we want to focus on planting food forests on the village land. The tree nursery would allow for the planting, and the selling of surplus saplings to their neighbours in the nearest city of Tarauaca as an alternative source of income to tourism and spread the knowledge and necessity for all peoples (not just indigenous) to plant food forests on their land.
The tree nursery will be used by the village to grow many varieties of trees, bushes and plants. These varieties will be a mix of fast growing species to provide shade structures and timber for building and construction, nutritional fruit trees for food, and medicinal plants for traditional medicines. Building the tree nursery will ensure food security for future generations and an income for the village. The children will also learn how to grow trees and plants from seedlings, and the importance of this work for the prosperity of the community.
There is a large area of the Huni Kui land that still requires to be reforested. Once the village is able to start growing its saplings, there is also the opportunity for them to raise further funding to reforest their land.

Aldeia Pinuya, vila de Huni Kui, localizada no Acre, no Brasil, gostaria de construir um viveiro de árvores para plantar mudas e reflorestar suas terras. O viveiro original de árvores das aldeias foi destruído em uma tempestade há alguns anos e, devido à falta de fundos, nunca foi possível reconstruir.
Os fundos estão sendo arrecadados para materiais para criar um viveiro de 10m x 10m, o que não inclui custos de mão-de-obra. Uma lista completa de materiais é listada. A construção do viveiro de árvores será realizada pelos moradores da vila, e as crianças serão educadas e aprenderão métodos de construção durante esse processo.

A vila de Pinuya é a menor terra indígena Huni Kuin na região norte do Acre e os moradores atualmente sofrem com a falta de suprimento de alimentos devido à pandemia. Até o momento, as mais de 70 famílias que residem em Pinuya fizeram enormes esforços e progrediram ao longo de muitos anos para reflorestar suas terras, além de plantar plantações e árvores para fornecer alimentos a mais de 200 pessoas que vivem na vila. Devido ao tamanho e localização de seu território indígena, eles são incapazes de caçar nas florestas ou ir ao rio para pescar e, portanto, contam com outras fontes para o cultivo de alimentos.
Para evitar futuras crises de escassez de alimentos, queremos nos concentrar no plantio de florestas de alimentos nas terras da vila. O viveiro de árvores permitiria o plantio e a venda de mudas excedentes para seus vizinhos na cidade mais próxima de Tarauaca como uma fonte alternativa de renda para o turismo e espalharia o conhecimento e a necessidade de todos os povos (não apenas indígenas) para plantar florestas de alimentos na terra deles.
O viveiro de árvores será usado pela vila para cultivar muitas variedades de árvores, arbustos e plantas. Essas variedades serão uma mistura de espécies de rápido crescimento para fornecer estruturas de sombra e madeira para construção civil, árvores frutíferas nutricionais para alimentação e plantas medicinais para medicamentos tradicionais. A construção do viveiro de árvores garantirá segurança alimentar para as gerações futuras e uma renda para a aldeia, pois algumas dessas mudas cultivadas no viveiro também poderão ser vendidas nos mercados locais. As crianças também aprenderão a cultivar árvores e plantas a partir de mudas e a importância desse trabalho para a prosperidade da comunidade.
Há uma grande área da terra Huni Kui que ainda precisa ser reflorestada. Quando a vila puder começar a cultivar suas mudas, também haverá a oportunidade de angariar mais fundos para reflorestar suas terras.
