UPDATE - Pinot's Medical Bills are now over $15,000. This little guy, Pinot Grigio has had a rough start. He came into the rescue with a known ACL/Meniscus tear and possible exposure to parvo requiring him to be quarantined for 10 days.  He did not contract parvo!  We discovered that he is a social little guy who loves to be part of a pack human or four legged, big or small, feline or canine he does not discriminate. However, we had struggles with food and pacing. We worked our way through a dozen dog foods, steak, chicken, and eggs to find that he would eat rice, pumpkin, bacon, liverwurst, and peanut butter!  He was also very restless, which seemed normal for the ACL tear and he was scheduled for surgery July 1stand receiving pain meds as needed.  Pinot was finally discovering that there are good things in life like belly rubs, toys, brothers, fenced yards, and soft beds!  And then one evening, with no warning, Pinot began to pace, drool, head press, and had a total change in personality.  We went to the vet as an emergency to discover that Pinot had an extremely high white blood cell count!  Everything from brain tumor to rabies was discussed as a possibility and we were sent home with antibiotics and sedatives.  The next morning it was clear Pinot needed further care, he was drooling and lethargic and had a vacant look in his eyes!  He no longer sought comfort from us!  We rushed the little guy two hours away to a hospital in Ithica, NY where we discovered that he has been suffering from a liver shunt!  We were not sure if he could make it through the day. The emergency vet said he was in very rough condition.  He was given lactulose enemas to try and get his ammonia levels decreased and clear his mentation issues.  He was treated for 2 days and had a positive outcome and will go to a different facility for life saving surgery!  Pinot has been home for a night and we see a remarkable change in him as he is no longer pacing, he appears to be pain free and is eating and slept peacefully for the first time! This is only the beginning of this dear one’s recovery. He has a long (and costly) medical journey ahead of him, but for now he is thriving and showing glimpses of the wonderful and precious soul that has been suppressed due to the pain and discomfort in his little body.  Pinot was lucky to have found his way to Save A Yorkie Rescue! Pinot is scheduled to see Dr. Carlos Hodges on June 12 to be evaluated for liver shunt surgery. Medical Bills are already over $3,000 and Pinot has not had any of the two surgeries he needs - livershunt surgery, neuter, and he will still need his ACL repaired.
