On July 18, 2017, Joi Pinkins, loving mother and devoted wife lost her 8 month battle with cancer at the age of 35. With a smile on her face and an unconquerable spirit, she soldiered through to the end of her life while maintaining a zest for living and an unshakeable love for her family and friends.
Anyone who knew Joi knew that she was truly the embodiment of her name, bringing laughter and light everywhere she went. She was “The Organizer”, making sure that she kept in contact with her family, and also making sure that family time was something that no one forgot to pencil into their busy lives. Joi was called the “Key Master”. While many weren't quite sure how she got them, she had a key to everything!
Joi also had razor sharp wit and a spectacular sense of humor that had laughter flowing wherever she went. She had a real love for music and she could often be caught bumping to some tunes as she did her errands around the neighborhood. And while Joi definitely had the gift of gab, she also was the truest of confidants, always there to lend a sympathetic ear while dishing out sage advice. Some may have called her an old soul, and others may have called her wise beyond her years, but that was just Joi.
Joi is loved by many. Her presence will be forever missed. We are grateful that her pain and suffering has ended and will try to embrace the advice of the old Hebrew Proverb that states, “Say not in grief, ‘She is no more’, but live in thankfulness that she was.”
Joi was one who was always willing to pitch in for any and every reason whatsoever especially for those who looked like they just needed a hand. In the spirit of her beautiful existence, we are starting this fundraiser as an opportunity to wrap our arms around this beautiful family. So that the burden of lingering medical expenses and funeral costs don't create even more worry. We want the Pinkins family to know that even though the center of their world has passed away, their community is here to help cushion this tremendous blow. Figuring out how to move forward in this season of grief can seem so impossible when going at it alone. However, with support, even the steepest of hills can be climbed.
