Pimp Sean's Ride

Help us raise funds to improve Sean’s mobility – and quality of life – with a reliable car adapted with hand controls!

My husband, Sean, has Multiple Sclerosis. Eight years ago, he could climb mountains; today, he walks with a cane – but barely – and has to sit and rest after only a block or two. He’s 39 and will be retiring and applying for Social Security Disability Insurance this fall.

Two of the biggest problems faced by people with limited mobility are isolation and diminished independence. He has struggled with this socially more and more over the past few years, but will soon lose the connection with and camaraderie of his colleagues.

A car for Sean is a desperate need but also an expense we can’t afford – especially with the impending loss of his salary and inevitable gap before his SSDI is approved. A new car with adaptations can cost $20k, but we’ve studied the market for used cars and expect to spend $5,000 - $7,500 before accommodations, which will cost about $1,000.

If we magically raise more than we have to spend on the car and adaptations, the remaining funds will go into a special account to be used only for maintenance of Sean’s car… and maybe some fuzzy dice.
