PIMP MY UNICORN! Norwich is born!
Pimp My Unicorn! is a brand new 2 week festival of art poetry performance and politics celebrating 50 years since the Stonewall Riot. FREE!
Pimp My Unicorn! aspires to be an annual festival of ideas and celebration and protest and beauty and dressing up!
Pimp My Unicorn! replaces this year's Pride Without Prejudice art show, closed due to a lack of bookings.
Pimp My Unicorn! takes place at St Margaret's Church of Art, St Benedict's Street, Norwich. The dates are: set up artwork Sunday 21 July, open for 2 weeks, take down art work by 5pm on Saturday 3 August. Norwich Pride Day is Saturday 27 July 2019.
The church is wheelchair accessible, using a ramp, there's a wheelchair accessible toilet. There's a tiny kitchen where you can make coffee, tea, use the fridge, wash up.
I've decided to fundraise and hire the whole church and invite you all in to perform, sing, party, make things, paint, show art, network, give workshops, play music, put on comedy, theatre, poetry, experiment, have fun. FREE!
PIMP MY UNICORN! will provide a focal point for the artwork, performance, and creativity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans communities; but let's widen that out and welcome queers and pansexuals and people who don't do labels and everyone else who is an ally of difference and respect and love.
I can't afford to do this on my own, so please chip in if you can, however small the amount. If you can't chip in money, but can help in other ways, get in touch. If you've got questions, ask.
Why £1000?
I'll put £100 in the kitty and organise the whole event with all offers of help welcome and accepted. The church hire is £600. I know from experience it costs £200 to buy all the bits and bobs for a 2 week show, coffee, tea, parking, snacks, etc, and look after the people invigilating. That's £800 to put the show on. Another £200 will pay for some nibbles and drinks for the launch event, and any parties.
Any money left over will go towards next year's PIMP MY UNICORN! so we can make sure the event happens every year. Once we have some money in the kitty for next year we can think about bringing artists and speakers in from afar.
