Pig Farm for Better Education.

Donation protected
My name is Mark Losha Chaffee. I was born in the village of Sop, which is located in the North West Region of Cameroon. Sop is a village of about 6 thousand inhabitants. Sop is governed by a traditional ruler called a “Shufai”. About 97 percent of the families in my village rely on farming as their main source of income and survival. Many children in Sop currently have access to a primary school but most of these children are deprived of a decent education because the parents cannot afford to provide the basic educational materials that these children need to learn. It is very common for children to have to drop out of school because parents cannot afford tuition. Growing up, my parents moved to Kumbo which is 20 Kilometers away from Sop. As a result of them moving to a more urban town I had the opportunity to be enrolled in a decent school. While in Kumbo my parents started a baking business that provided them with enough sustainable income to afford my educational needs.  Although I had to walk 2 miles to get to school during my primary school days, I was happy to be getting an education as many of my peers back in Sop were not as fortunate.

This education paved the way for me to go on to college and obtain gainful employment, opportunities children growing up in Sop were not afforded. More than two decades later, many children in my village are still facing the problem of access to a decent education as parents still can not afford it. With many families living with less than a dollar a day, putting food on the table and paying for medical bills consumes the majority of these families income. Given the many opportunities that I had as a result of an education my goal is to find a more cost effective and sustainable way for families of Sop to be able to provide a quality education for their children. I believe that sometimes it take one person to initiate change and I hope to be that person in my village. I have been given the gift of education and now I feel strongly about giving back.

Considering that lack of sustainable income is a big part of this problem, the money raised from this campaign will help set up a community pig farm. The Sop Community Pig Farm intends to create more sustainable income for the educational needs of Sop children. The income from the farm will be used to provide tuitions for kids in need, provide textbooks and workbooks, and buy uniforms and any other necessary supplies. The income generated from this farm will make the cost of education less of a burden for parents.

Yours donations will contribute tremendously to the success of this initiative. Help me spread the word to your friends and family so that we can meet our fundraising goal. On behalf of the Sop community, I thank you in advance for your support.
