Raising Hope for the Pierrot Twins

Born and raised in Haiti, Dr. Peter Pierrot spends his days working to positively change his country’s health care system by directing Double Harvest — a medical clinic near Port-au-Prince that offers the region primary and specialized surgical care with the help of many volunteer groups that visit throughout the year.

Now Dr. Pierrot, who is used to solving others health dilemmas and dreams of becoming Haiti’s Minister of Public Health, is faced with his biggest challenge yet: making sure his wife receives the care she needs to safely give birth to their twins. It’s a challenge many people face living in Haiti, as the country’s infant mortality rate is the highest in the Western Hemisphere.

Peter and his wife Ruth, who's at an increased risk for complications, have worked to obtain all the paperwork needed to travel to the U.S. where they know they’ll get the care needed to deliver their twins safely.
