Piecyk's Archery Troop

I am Ryan Piecyk, a teacher at Bangor Public Schools. Our district has implemented a wonderful opportunity for students. Project Term is a five-week term for grades 5-12 that begins May 3, 2021 and ends on June 4, 2021. Project Term is an opportunity for students to explore areas of interest, engage in experiential learning, and to recover any lost credits or skill gaps from the school year. This structure also allows us to offer a rich variety of courses that are difficult to offer in a small school setting during the traditional year.
A conservationist myself, and an avid outdoorsman, I have selected Archery as my project term class. Archery has a long history going back at least 5,000 years and is one of the oldest arts still practiced today. In this class, students will study the history and science of archery and target shooting. This will promote instruction in target archery as part of in-school curriculum, to improve educational performance and participation in the shooting sports among students. With that being said, target archery is widely accepted as a safe, wholesome, and noncontroversial sport. The program is designed so young people who may not necessarily be exposed to archery can learn these skills and decide on their own how and where to apply those skills.
It is my hope to instill a love for the outdoors, and provide an opportunity to participate in a life long sport. The equipment that this class requires will be used not only this year but in future classes as well. In a time where kids spend way too many hours on electronics, participating in archery will show them fun that does not involve screen time.
It is important to have the archery equipment by April 30th, so we are ready for the first day of class, May 3. I am very excited about this opportunity to move my classroom outside, and to be involved in this exciting opportunity Bangor public schools is offering. Project Term will help with social emotional learning, giving the students some sense of normalcy and honestly, some fun learning time.
Supply List from Kruizenga Archery:
Genesis Bow kits
Genesis Arrows, replacements and backstraps
Morrell school/youth targets
Thank you in advance for your generous donations and support!
