Picnic Tables for MLK Middle School Germantown
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Megan Stallard. I am a seventh grade student at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, and a Girl Scout Cadette. With the support of my principal, Mr. Wynne, I’m hoping to put in picnic tables for outdoor lunch seating and possibly outdoor classrooms at my middle school soon. My goal is to install 10 picnic tables, and to do this I will need to raise around $3,000.
I decided to lead this project for a Girl Scout award that I would like to earn called a Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second - highest award in Girl Scouts, and it requires a service project to meet a need in the community. I’ve noticed that other middle schools in the county, like Ridgeview, have picnic tables, while MLK does not. Being a student at MLK, I know that we do have outdoor seating, but it consists of just a few lunch tables on a small blacktop. I would like to create something more permanent, with a higher capacity, and in a more natural setting (since being outside in nature is good for your mental health). Specifically, this project will be valuable now, during the COVID - 19 pandemic, so that all students can feel comfortable taking their masks off while eating lunch. There is also a possibility that these tables could be used as outdoor classrooms in addition to lunch seating.
Thank you so much for any support you can provide!
