Many of you know this has been an extremely difficult six months for our family and there is a long road ahead.
First off, thank you to everyone for all of the support and well wishes. We are putting this fund together to help Kelly beat this, but first I wanted to provide some background on our mission. Despite having insurance, battling cancer costs a fortune. Kelly is unable to work, and I have been working nightshifts & overtime whenever it’s available in an effort to keep up. Despite these efforts, the costs are mounting quicly.
Kelly is a 37 year old loving wife, and the mother of our four year old son and one year old daughter. Our world forever changed in January 2017. Kelly has been diagnosed with HER2 stage three metastatic cancer, which is an aggressive form of breast cancer. Since January Kelly has endured a lumpectomy, is on a triple chemotherapy schedule per visit, and has neulasta injections following every chemo treatment.
As one can only imagine this treatment has severely impacted Kelly. Often times Kelly is bedridden for several days due to the chemo being so strong, which causes her white blood cell count to plummet. The neulasta raises her cell count back to a safe level. Without this treatment, Kelly is at risk for infections and she needs to protect herself from any illness. As you can imagine having small children makes this challenging.
Kelly is also scheduled to start radiation treatments 5x/week, and once radiation is completed she will continue maintenance chemo for at least a year. Following this, Kelly will require reconstructive surgery. There was no treatment for this cancer just two years ago.
As a family we are optimistic that the new drug that was just approved two months before Kelly was diagnosed, will lead to a positive outcome. As if things couldn’t get any tougher, we just found out our one year old daughter Brynn has been diagnosed with global delays. This requires physical therapy and early intervention, which will only add to the medical bills. All this combined is putting an extreme strain on our family. This is not just a battle, but a war we are raging as a family.
