Phouvone Lofland

One year ago, our beautiful Sister-in-law, Phouvone (Vone) Lofland, healthy and only 45 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile ducts). Our brother, David Lofland, rushed her from their home in Alaska to MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she underwent major surgery, and months of chemotherapy. Tragically, the cancer has recurred in her liver, is inoperable, and has now spread into her lungs. Vone is now bravely undergoing a second regimen of harsh chemotherapy trying to extend her life if possible. They are also searching nationwide for a clinical trial which would accept her and offer further hope. This has been devastating to their family, emotionally and financially.
We are writing today to ask for help for Phouvone and David. They have always been kind, generous, and loving to everyone around them. Vone is a fantastic cook and she and David love to entertain large groups of friends, family, co-workers and her Buddhist community. They both are such good people, but now they are the ones that need help.
One can only imagine the tremendous stress of all the medical expenses, and travel costs from Anchorage to Houston where she is receiving some of her care at MD Anderson.
This is made worse by loss of income from each of them while she is so ill. David must take time off as Vone says, he is her “doctor, nurse, cook, housekeeper and driver” so he has lost a huge percentage of his income. We are so proud of them both, the kind of people they are, and for trying so hard to beat this terrible disease. We appreciate any donation you can give to help Vone’s life. We want to make her time with David and her two adoring children be as free as possible of the worry of overwhelming financial costs, and/or medical decisions based upon limited finances.
