Photographer for Mission to Nepal

Donation protected
‘Because it’s there,’ was legendary mountain climber Greg Mallory’s answer when asked why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest.  My upcoming trip to Nepal is because they are there, the people of rural Nepal who are desperate for the help of NepalAbility.

NepalAbility has been sending volunteer healthcare professionals on mission trips to rural Nepal since well before the devastating earthquakes of 2015.   These folks seek particularly to maximize the quality of life of people living with disabilities in Nepal.

Health care services in Nepal are of very poor quality, vitally underfunded, and concentrated in urban areas. That leaves rural areas around Pokhara and Tansen where we will work, very underserved.

The team is primarily physical therapists …. and me. As their official photographer I will document their daily work supporting rehabilitation through service to Nepali patients.  The service and training to patients will help restore or maintain physical function and mobility, assistance like proper wheelchair seating, spinal cord injury education, and pressure ulcer prevention.

This to patients who may walk hours to get to the clinic and for whom Nepal’s rugged terrain and lack of infrastructure has made this rehabilitative relief previously inaccessible.

Outside of clinic time, the team will provide sustainable education and resources for Nepali healthcare providers.

My role will be to document everything with lasting images Nepalability can use for training, fundraising, recruitment, and education.  My Polaroid camera will go as well, so I can leave pictures behind with the patients and villagers I meet.  I’ll be documenting the mission on social media as well so you can follow along.

This is a bucket list trip for me.  Not merely because of my health situation, but because I have something meaningful to contribute.

I am asking you to please contribute to help me get there.

My fundraising goal is $3,000 which will cover my expenses and allow me/us to leave a little cash to help purchase wheelchairs and other equipment donations to the people we’ll serve.

If you’d rather write a check please contact me and I will send you my address.

The team leaves November 6th, the day after my 13th wedding anniversary, and begins the 48-hour return on November 19th.   So, this plea is rather urgent.

As you know, every gift helps. I’d be honored to receive yours and put it to good use helping these people who need help so desperately.

I’d love to talk to you about it – I’m so excited I can barely talk about anything else!  Leave your comment below, and I will contact you.  And, if you know anybody else who may be willing to support this mission, please send this GoFundMe page to them.

Thank you so much for helping me make the world a little better.

Peace & Love,

Robert
