Support Our South Philly Communities
Philly Thrive won an end to more than 150 years of oil refining in South Philadelphia through our storytelling, strategizing, and bold resistance! We are holding this enormous victory, and continuing to mobilize to win back our Right to Breathe.
Philly Thrive is fundraising this spring, asking our community to stand with us. Philly Thrive members continue to organize for system change, honing our demands as we work for an economy and a health care system that tackle the climate crisis and inequality, protecting our Right to Breathe. We’re also weaving powerful networks of community care and mutual aid, lifting each other up in response to the urgent injustices of COVID-19.

In moments like these, where direct aid infrastructure is so critical, our work and our communities are strengthened by organizations like Young Chances, who have been doing the vital work of meeting the needs of South Philadelphians for years.
Young Chances’ Community Engagement Center at 27th & Tasker holds educational and recreational programs, community events and workshops, and skills and information sessions, providing children in South Philly with opportunities to build leadership and have fun. Young Chances gives away coats, home-cooked meals, and more to the Grays Ferry community. Young Chances continues to respond powerfully to COVID, dropping off food, hot plates, cleaning supplies and more for families across Philly, and hosting giveways of care packages and food boxes for residents.
Philly Thrive and Young Chances are working together in response to COVID, collaborating to safely drop-off boxes of food + hot meals for folks in the neighborhood, meeting the needs of our older folks and community members with immune diseases. Both of our organizations are led by South Philadelphians working to build community and a better future for our families.

We know this is a time of growing economic uncertainty and stress, but ask you to support this fundraiser at a level that is personally meaningful to you. This is a critical time to back the leadership of South Philadelphians who are have been living at the frontlines of environmental and economic injustice for centuries. Through community centers, community organizing, and community care, we are building towards the systems we deserve, and addressing the enormous ways our systems is failing to meet our needs, particularly through the current public health crisis of COVID-19.
