Phillip Ledford Memorial Fund

Phil Ledford--Navy veteran, devoted husband, dog lover, and faithful friend--went to be with the Lord yesterday after battling head and neck cancer for 1.5 years.  He was surrounded by loved ones--furry and human--in these last days. He leaves behind his loving wife and life partner of 41 years, Helene.

When it became clear that a cure was no longer an option, they initiated a refinancing of their home through Phil's VA eligibility in order to lower the monthly payments so Helene could stay in their home. Unfortunately, Phil took a rapid turn for the worse and although within a few days of closing, he left us before it could be finalized. He was trying to hang on despite our urging that Helene would be ok, but was suffering too much. We were praying over him yesterday after Helene told him again it was ok to let go.  He scrunched his eyes twice and took his last breath and is united with God fully restored now.

Helene's refinance loan now needs to be moved to conventional under Helene only, so it will be a higher interest rate plus mortgate insurance if not below 80% loan to value ratio.

This campaign is primarily to raise the $16,000 Helene needs to get the LTV below 80% and bring the monthly payment to one that she can afford on her own.  She will also have at least $3,000 in mortuary and cremation expenses, so we are setting the goal at $19,000.

Although we have many, here is one story about Phil that will that will give you a glimpse of his character. He was a volunteeer golden retriever rescue foster. He cared for and loved so many furry angels as they transitioned from often horrible circumstances to a loving forever home. One of them named Rudy was old and with cancer and came back to him a few times.  Rudy was very afraid of thunder, and would exhibit extreme anxiety during our monsoon storms.  Phil discovered that Rudy's anxiety would be relieved if he was riding in a car. But Rudy was ailing and couldn't easily get into Phil's Jeep Patriot. So thanks Phil's sister Shery and brother in law Mike, Phil used their van with a lower climb into the vehicle. And Phil would drive Rudy around for as long as any storms lasted. Sometimes they lasted and hour, sometimes they literally went all night long. But Phil, faithful and selfless until his last breath, would drive Rudy around all night if needed.

Phil was a treasure to those of us who loved him and were blessed by him.  Helene was a devoted wife and also caregiver over this last year and a half, managing work, their home and caring for and loving Phil through a very difficult, up and down journey. Please consider blessing Helene in this time of grief by donating what you can to help her pay funeral expenses and stay in her home.  Thanks so much for your love and support for her.  Phil is at peace now and free of pain and suffering but will smile down knowing others came to support his bride at this time of need. In gratitude.
