Philippines Missionary Work

I am a Missionary to the Philippines, working primarily with orphans who have lost their families to tsunamis, disease, or other unfortunate circumstances. My heart goes out to these wonderful children who through it all, never fail to have a smile on their faces. I help to feed, clothe, and get medical care to as many of these precious children as possible. I have been working with these humble, cheerful, and grateful souls all over the Philippines, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through ministries such as BTEA, the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association.
During my time there, I have seen many of these wonderful people deteriorate right before my eyes due to the simple lack of knowledge of a very treatable disease, Diabetes. As a Type 1 Insulin-Dependent Diabetic myself, this obviously hits home hard for me. Diabetes can unfortunately become a life threatening and debilitating illness very quickly without proper care. These poor patients need urgent help for what has become a massive problem. They are currently being told to eat as little as possible, and to come into the clinic only ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS to get their glucose checked and receive a shot. If you are at all familiar with Diabetes, you know that glucose levels should be checked multiple times EACH DAY, with shots given daily, not every few months.
I am in the process of purchasing (and asking for donations of) glucose monitors and test strips, so that the people of the Philippines don’t have to die prematurely from this treatable illness. My goal is to bring medical personnel with me to help educate these patients on how diet and nutrition impact diabetes, and how they can properly managed it with the regular routine care which we will help provide.
One of my related ministries is eye glasses. I have had hundreds, if not thousands of used eye glasses donated each year which we reconstitute for children and adults to help them see. We also have onsite eye exams and a Phoropter Machine. This alone makes a huge difference in the lives of these thankful people.
As you can see, my heart is truly with the people of the Philippines, and I have sold my home and all my belongings to go minister to them as often as possible. If I could afford it, or with full time sponsorship, I would not hesitate to be there all year round. As of now, I am raising funds to stay for 3 months at a time. The cost is approximately $12,500 to help as many orphans, diabetics, and others as possible during my stay. There is much work to be done, and it is my greatest joy to do it.
