Philippine Insight Meditation Community Fundraiser

Philippine Insight Meditation Community (PIMC) started with three people inspired to build a dharma community based on Insight meditation. I was a guiding teacher with two co- founders who are Filipinos who sat on Vipassana retreats with committed dharma practice.  We started in 2011 and formed a regular meditation practice as a community in the business district of Manila. I owned a wellness center where we met weekly for our group practice. Some years later, I moved back to the United States and PIMC needed a new location to meet. We were blessed with a very generous invitation to meet at a yoga teacher’s studio in the same area.  We embraced the change.  I moved into being a visiting teacher and advisor with deep appreciation for the new guiding teacher, Imee Contreras, who has been beautifully holding our beloved community. We invite lay and monastic guest teachers to teach the dharma to our sangha. We are based in a country that is majority Catholic so our community, although it is growing, is still very small yet unshakably committed to the teaching of the Buddha.

I am so deeply appreciative to the commitment shown by our volunteers/dharma practitioners, regular guest teachers and monastic teachers that I am compelled to raise funds for my beloved community in the Philippines.

We depend on donations for providing administration costs, day-longs, retreats, and paying for food for our meetings with the volunteers. In the past, we had a Jack Kornfield scholarship fund which was given through his kindness for getting us going. We gave out many scholarships for retreats, day-longs and bought meditation cushions.

We are hoping to raises $3000 dollars to help the sangha to continue to thrive and pass on the teachings of the dharma. If we reach this goal, we can give our guest teachers 100% of the donation for their teachings and give a little more to our monastics teachers.

In light of the recent eruption of Taal Volcano, we commit to share 10% of the donations to the farmers who are recovering from loss of their livelihood at this time.  Another 10% will go toward our service work teaching mindfulness to Behavior Modification Program for prison inmates in different parts of the Philippines.

We often serve people with all ranges of income and sometimes our donations are very small. Any help you can give us would be invaluable. We are asking for $5, 20, 50, 100 or whatever you can give.

Thank you for your contribution, Carol Cano
