Philip's Memorial

My name is John Luke Enriquez, one of Lana H Claycamp's sons; I have lived and worked in Dallas, TX for most of my life.

I am raising money for my brother Philip's autopsy and final funeral arrangements; he died in the hospital in Wichita Falls, TX on January 16, 2016, he was 43 years old. I am raising money to pay for an autopsy so that we can learn more details of why he died; the doctors and nurses have been vague.

I am arranging for an autopsy through American Forensics, LLC because the doctors and nurses have become suspect, they would not give us a clear answer on the reason why he died.

I called the Justice of the Peace and he refused to order an autopsy because he did not receive a request from the hospital/doctor to do so.

We obtained all of the medical records from the hospital and found discrepancies between what we were told, what was documented and what we witnessed.

Philip died in the hospital after being admitted 7 days before; they said that he had kidney issues but they did not treat it.

My mother told the nurses that she felt a very hard lump in his stomach; the doctor started treating for constipation.

This past Saturday morning, I spoke with one of the nurses and she said that she thought Philip was fine, but she had x-rays that the doctor needed to look at that day to determine if surgery was needed.

The nurses, funeral home and JP brought up the costs associated with a death such as three to five thousand for an autopsy and another three thousand for cremation or ten to fifteen thousand for a traditional burial; wow, we were not prepared, it came too soon, but I won’t let it scare me away.

The funeral home wants to know what they need to do with the body; it has been frozen since this past Sunday. It is costing one hundred dollars per day to keep him in the freezer; we need to get the autopsy as soon as possible (the best autopsys are done as soon as possible after death), the only hurdle is coming up with the money for the upfront costs; there is a $1,000 charge for transporting his body to Dallas, TX for the autopsy, a $2,500 charge for the autopsy, a $2,000 charge for the cremation and a $200 charge for an urn. I have already made preliminary arrangements; I expect to have to cover all of the costs myself some way or the other, but hopefully will get some help with this site.

The last thing Philip said to me last week on the phone was "Money, money, money, I'm richer than you." I replied, "I know you are." He then hung up. I always believed that he was richer than me, richer in spirit. He died on my birthday.

I would be extremely thankful if I could get contributions to help pay for the autopsy and cremation; it would mean so much to me to know that other people out there would like to know the rest of the story and be willing to donate their hard earned money to find out.

Here is some further background on Philip:

Philip had a schizoaffective disorder; schizoaffective disorder is a mix of mental health conditions including schizophrenic and mood disorder features that may run a unique course in each affected person.
Our sister Sarah wrote the following heartfelt message:
"Last night we had a memorial get together for my brother...it's still all so new so I am having a hard time talking about him. (Please stop reading now if you can't handle the truth about the mentally ill in this country.) My brother was diagnosed as mentally ill at the age of 18 and he had a frikkin' rough time, to say at the least.
So...him having schizophrenia made him hard to get along with sometimes. When he was in his 20's and early 30's he had some anger issues. He was heavily sedated most of his adult life. He isolated himself from the family and people were sometimes afraid to be around him. I think we were afraid because we would see his outburst and sometimes not fully understand the underlying cause. My mother was by his side the entire time. She would go clean the places he lived in, shop for him, take him to Dr. appointments. She worked her ass off to make sure he was never homeless under a f#@&ing bridge in this life. She bust her ass and emotions over my brother. She never let go.
Mom...I just want to say...as Philip rests, I want YOU to rest as well knowing that you did everything in your power and knowledge to help him. You were his life and everything he needed. God gave him to you for a reason...God knew that you would be the one to care for him.
This season of your life has come to an end and its time, mom, for you to transcend to another level of life. I'm not sure what it will be because we all know how unpredictable life is but I know it will be positive and nourishing to your soul. I love you mom and God has you under his arm with his angels by your side. Philip had a beautiful childhood while he was under your care and a protected adulthood...
I want to share one memory...
We lived in North Carolina as children and played daily in the "woods" with all of nature. My brother made me a crown of vines and taught me how to do the same thing. He also taught me to make bracelets and necklaces linking flowers together. He made me feel like a princess. I was the only girl out of my 3 brothers and always felt protected...and never vulnerable. I think that is a reason my spirit is so strong today. I will always love you Philip Enriquez. Rest in heaven. August 17, 1972-January 16, 2016."
