On Monday, august 28th, my son (Philip), his wife (Valenceia) and their three children (ages 3, 5 and 12) were forced to evacuate their home due to the level of water increasingly rising. They crawled out through a window after blocking the door hoping they would be able to salvage as much as they could since they knew the rain was expected to fall in the coming days.
Philip was able to get in touch with some friends who drove as far as they could on dry land before having to wade through the water to reach them. Once they got to the apartment, Philip and Valenceia passed off their two girls so they could quickly get them safely first. After they began to head back with the girls, my son and his wife, went back into the house one last time and gathered a few things they would need and placed them in garbage bags. As they and my nephew trudged through the water to meet up with their friends, my son stumbled upon a peice of glass and cut his foot. The water was waist deep and they had no way of knowing where they were walking. The walk to safety was 1/4 mile away.
As a concerned mother and grandmother, I am requesting help for them seeing as how they will need assistance when this storm blows over. The insurance for his property will eventually come but no one know how long it will take. He is not able to get to work but is still required to work remotely via a company laptop.
Although they know that they most likely will lose everything in the house plus their two vehicles, family is something that cannot be replaced. Being together, safe and dry is what matters above all else.
