Phil is my twin brother....I've lived with him my entire life. We've really only had each other to rely upon growing up.
We lost our mother to cancer almost six years ago. I had my own battle with it earlier this year (2017). Phil had a small fight in 2013 and it returned in July of this year. After six weeks of treatment and another 9 weeks recovery process, it appears that he will again have to undergo more treatment.....as it has jumped to his lungs.
With all this going on, he has had another battle to fight......being laid off three days before he was scheduled to return to work. Now, he will face this new battle with cancer unemployed (which brings all the stress of no insurance/COBRA premiums).
On February 2nd, Phil had a consult with a doctor with The James.....even though they had a treatment in which they had high hopes for, that same day; pnuemonia decided to set into Phil's lungs.
In his weaken state, he had to battle to overcome the pnuemonia in order to begin is cancer treatment......unfortunately, that time never came. Phil couldn't get past the last hurdle that would allow him to get his treatment and I had to say goodbye to my brother and my best friend of 51 years.
Unfortunately, with being laid off, and too ill to collect unemployment; there will of course be a wave of financial burden in the immediate future.
