Hello kind supporters!
My name is Christine Kim and I am the founder of the online magazine, OstomyConnection. Since its launch in 2015, our intention has been to bring ostomates (people living with an ostomy) into the media and make a difference in people’s lives. Initiating positive change and giving back are two principles we work hard to achieve every day.
If you're not familiar with the word ostomy, it's a general medical term used for three main types of lifesaving surgery; colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy. People have this surgery for many different reasons, such as colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, diverticulitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, injury, Hirschsprung's disease, and more.
This fundraiser was created as part of our commitment to give back.
Some people living with an ostomy in the United States do not have health insurance. Some have health insurance but ostomy products aren't covered under their policy, or the quantity allowed is limited. They’re forced to pay out-of-pocket for costly medical supplies they cannot live without.
Our mission started with one question: How can we help people who cannot afford ostomy supplies in the USA? The answer came loud and clear: There’s a simple way to help ostomates. Send money and supplies to people who need them — without conditions.
This is a “pay-it-forward” initiative to be kind and make a difference.
Many have excess products to donate and others don't have any — making this connection is very important to our mission. Kindred Box would not exist today if it weren’t for dozens of people who selflessly gave their own ostomy supplies to help those in need. Each and every person who donated money wanted nothing in return, except to make a difference in the lives of ostomates.
I believe that a few caring people who take action can truly make a difference, and in most cases that's all it takes! My sincere appreciation goes out to every single one of you for taking the time to read our mission and consider a contribution. I am honored to be part of such an amazing and supportive community.
