Philadelphia Awaits

Hello, my name is Ed Toddy. I am a writing student from Bradford, AR and I need your support. During my freshman year of college, I wrote an essay on video games and their effect on flow – a mindful state that offers a solution to daily stress. Normally, a flow state positively affects subjective well-being but research shows that flow states achieved through gaming or by other digital means have a negative effect on happiness. That essay was later published by UCA Professor Ruby Mongno in her book Brave Spaces: A Rhetoric of Otherness.
Recently, I have been researching a similar topic: mindfulness in monochronic societies. I am currently working on an essay that explains the effects of the digital age on the presence of mindfulness in our daily lives, and I have been accepted to present that essay at the American Popular Culture Conference this spring.
So far, I have accepted $300 from the university, but the trip to Philadelphia will be expensive. Already, I spent $200 to register for the conference, and I expect that both airfare and a hotel will cost a pretty penny.
