"Eliminate the devastating effects of illiteracy and unlock the innate abilities of children with dyslexia by engaging parents and educators in adopting the science of teaching reading."   - Our Dyslexic Children Mission Statement

OUR DYSLEXIC CHILDREN, INC. MOVES INTO PHASE 4

Our Dyslexic Children, Inc. (ODC) announces Phase 4 of their non-profit mission to assist dyslexia parent groups in securing reading instruction based on the Science of Reading for all children with dyslexia. Our children are especially vulnerable in the current educational environment due to the global pandemic and our work is more critical now than ever before.

We’ve had an amazing response to our documentary Our Dyslexic Children (60k+ views) and in order to meet the requests for resources, we plan to build an educational platform, initiate an app and expand our social media community. This next phase encompasses the production and implementation of a fully dynamic online educational platform that will be activated to affect change in school districts all over the country.

We’re taking a groundbreaking approach by creating a video-based education portal. Supporters with dyslexia have commented that the documentary, the interviews and the roadmap are amazing because of their clarity and accessibility. We intentionally design in this format to ensure that our supporters can easily access our resources. Nothing like this exists anywhere in the world in either content or format.

Phase 4 - Goals

Along with the creation, production and launch of this groundbreaking educational platform, our goal is to reach 100K active followers on social media sites; Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. By increasing participation in socials, ODC will not only expand content viewership and raise awareness, but will activate community parent groups and school administrators to facilitate change in school districts around the globe. ODC will accomplish these goals within 12 months, positioning the nonprofit to secure a future corporate partnership to provide sustainable ongoing programming and operating funds.

Phase 4 - Fundraising Strategy

In order to raise substantial operating and production funds for Phase 4, ODC is starting with a diversified strategy that incorporates a second crowdfunding campaign in order to complete website and initiate app development. As you know, ODC successfully secured $50,000 through their first crowdfunding campaign to produce and distribute the documentary and are confident in their ability to raise another $50,000 to cover operating and production expenses to complete Phase 4 goals.

PROVEN TRACK RECORD

ODC’s mission has been structured in Phases, three of which have been successfully completed.

Phase 1:  ODC secured educational services for their children with dyslexia in Upper Arlington, OH.

Phase 2:  ODC created a state-wide coalition to organize parent groups in Ohio to secure educational services for their children with dyslexia.

Phase 3:  ODC fundraised $50,000 through Kickstarter and produced the non-profit documentary Our Dyslexic Children and the accompanying book A Strategic Roadmap for Dyslexia Parent Groups to capture lessons learned and inspire families to fight to secure educational services for their children with dyslexia.

THE FILM

OUR DYSLEXIC CHILDREN 2020

A History - In 2010, a group of parents in a suburban school district near Columbus, Ohio discovered their children had something in common - they could not read. Their dyslexia was not being identified or remediated as is required by federal law under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The group banded together to form the grassroots organiza- tion, Upper Arlington Kids Identified with Dyslexia (UA-KID). Together, they filed a systemic group complaint with the Ohio Department of Education, and the district was found in viola- tion on all three allegations. This resulted in the group forming a partnership with the district, and they now work shoulder to shoulder to deliver the nationally recognized early literacy program they built together. This film offers a roadmap for parents to advocate on behalf of all children. To date, the film has been viewed over 60,000 times!

THE BOOK

A STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR DYSLEXIA PARENT GROUPS FIRST EDITION 2020

After their successful film premiere and Zoom panel in late May of 2020, ODC began production of the first edition of their book, A Strategic Roadmap for Dyslexia Parent Groups, which breaks down their collective experience of taking on their school district and synthesizes their experiences into an easy to read step-by-step instructional manual. The free book in PDF form functions as a practical guide to help parents everywhere, especially for those whose resources are limited. Another benefit of the book: it will function as the blueprint for how information and resources will be organized on the ODC educational platform and evolve into a fully dynamic, free online educational platform.
