Words can't describe how I feel about my amazing sister Mary R Pitts. On Sunday, March 8, this wonderful woman of God was on her way to church when she was shot by a deranged gunman over 10 times! Eight bullets wounded her body. Two bullets struck her in the head: one in the brain and one through the eye. As a result she has lost her left eye. More bullets ripped apart her intestines. She was also wounded in her arm and chest before the gunman killed himself with a bullet to the head.

Since March 8, Mary has gone through several operations to restore her body. She is making remarkable progress. Her road to recovery will be tedious and will  include  more extensive surgeries, substantial physical therapy, and  professional counseling.

This horrific tragedy has torn my soul apart. Mary did not warrant this hideous act of violence! My sister is a wonderful God fearing woman who has overcome many life struggles –a kidney transplant, breast cancer and Foster care.

Through it all, Mary never quits! She is full of life, love and has a vision. A LaSalle University graduate, Mary has served the community for over 20 years as a social worker and mentor to high risk youth. She is a gifted artist, author and producer. Mary has spun her pain into purpose… by establishing “Prophetic Presentations”, A Ministry to –

“bring restoration, healing, unity, social awareness, hope, encouragement, admonishment, as well as laughter to every community, family unit, high risk youth, man, woman, child, particularly African Americans, through the endowment of the ARTS.”
