We're also committed to positively impacting this world through various community outreach initiatives, projects and events.
In 2018, one of our outreach projects was to support a primary school we identified in Crooked River, Jamaica that was in need of basic supplies such as writing utensils, food, crayons, markers, etc. During the process of getting these items to the school, we learned from the principal that they were in desperate need of new desk and chairs for their students. The desks and chairs that are currently being used are badly broken and damaged, which has resulted in a potentially serious safety concern. We also learned that this school for children 3 to 6 years old as no playground equipment at all.
Playbased learning has been identified as a key component of quality early childhood education internationally. The Ministry of Education in the west indies and national Education Trust of Jamaica have acknowledged that children from the lowest socio-economic groups are those most likely to attend schools with poor physical infrastructure and while much effort is being made to correct this so that all children can have access to the same quality of education, remote schools, such as Crooked River Basic School are often overlooked and/or missed,
We are aiming to raised 20,000 CAD in order to build a playground equipped with see-saw, swings, slide and jungle gym, as well as supply this facility with new desk and chairs for students in Spring 2020.
