Hello everyone: I lost my nephew Tony to drug addiction. Tony was only 27 years old when he passed away . Tony was not only my nephew but he was also my friend. I could talk to Tony about anything and everything. He was always there for me. His smile and beautiful personality would light up a room. There were many times in my own life where I faced personal hardship and Tony would always find the time to send me a text to lift me up and see how I was doing even though he was battling his own hardship. That was the person my nephew was. I called Tony my "sweet boy" because that is who he was. Tony would always put others ahead of himself especially those who were in need. He had a special place in his heart for people who were suffering even though he was battling his own hardship with addiction. Tony fought his addiction for many years and wanted and tried to stay sober, but sadly in the end, it is what ended his young life. I would often tell Tony what a beautiful life he could have without using drugs and he would agree and tell me how hard it was. For many years I could not come to terms with the reason for my nephews death instead I chose to remember Tony as the sweet, kind hearted and generous person he was. I know deep in my heart the reason for Tony's death but I only want to remember Tony as the beautiful sweet boy who was not only my nephew but also my friend. After Tony's passing, my family started a non-profit organization called "Tony's STEPS". The organization provides financial assistance to people in need of a safe, clean, sober transitional living after DETOX. Sometimes it's hard to see a drug addicted person as anything else but a drug addict but we don't know what could have led them down this path so I am asking if you can find it in your hearts to please donate to "Tony's STEPS" and give others a chance towards a new beginning in Tony's memory.
