Hello! My name is Darrian, and I am currently a junior in college majoring in Creative Writing and Global Studes. This summer, I am hoping to be able to travel abroad to Nagoya, Japan in order to study for four weeks at Nanzan University. This would be an amazing opportunity, not only because it has been a long-time wish of mine to visit Japan, but also because I'd be able to improve my Japanese fluency after taking three years of Japanese courses and learn about a different culture that could benefit my career in the future.
While in Japan, I would be taking intensive Japanese language courses, traveling to famous sites, learning about Japanese history and culture, and engaging with Japanese citizens and establishing connections. If I am able to go on this trip, I will be recording my entire experience to share with others when I return to the U.S, and will return to school in the fall as a study abroad ambassador who will help/teach students about the incredible experiences they could have abroad.
As of right now, I have one scholarship with my school and am planning on working this summer before the trip in order to pay for my flight expenses. All the financial aid I am recieving from FAFSA and government loans are currently putting me through college, so the only way I could pay for the trip is through scholarships or paying for it myself, as I don't qualify for private loans.
I have applied for other scholarships, but have not yet heard from them. However, as of right now, the decision on whether I am going to Japan is not yet set in stone. It all depends on if I can raise enough money to pay for my trip and the essentials I will need while I am there. There is a contract I must sign by April 30th deciding on whether I am going to Japan or not. In order to sign it, I must have enough money to pay for the trip.
I'm not one to like asking people for money, but since the deadline is quickly approaching, I decided to set up a GoFundMe in case anyone would like to help out. Thank you in advance if you are considering helping! I hope I will be able to take a great opportunity such as this to gain a new perspective of the world and to hopefully help global relations in the future.
