This Go fund Me Page is being set up to assist Lorne & Rita Pettifer. They live in the Barrhead, Alberta area & have been our friends for approximately 10 years. They live a quiet, simple life on a small acreage. The two of them are amazing to me in that, no matter what they go through, they “take it as it comes” & they trudge through it all with an incredible sense of humour; that, alongside great faith and trust in God.
More worrisome to the above, both Lorne & Rita have health issues, and the pressing one at the moment is Lorne’s…it is URGENT. LORNE NEEDS A LIVER!!! He will undergo testing to see if he’s a viable candidate to be placed on the Transplant List.
Lorne is now on medical (un)Employment Insurance, with no expected date to return to the work force. With the loss of income & benefits as his company has had to release him, it’s about to get even tougher. PLEASE, HELP US RAISE FUNDS SO LORNE & RITA CAN PAY THEIR BILLS—the regular ones AND MEDICAL ONES TO COME… HELP THEM MEET THE UNKNOWN AHEAD

The traveling to/from medical appointments is exhausting and costs related to the time & travel include fuel, meals, accommodations at times as well as wear & tear on vehicles. They rely on friends and family now too, to get them where they need to be. Life is expensive enough but having added expenses to what is already more than they are able to meet adds to the stress & well-being. Your gracious gifts will help immensely!
Here’s why they need our help: Over the last dozen years or so, they’ve dealt with many medical catastrophes: there have been physical (on the job) injuries, hospitalization, prior diagnosis of cancer & Chemo treatments…all while trying to maintain employment to meet normal costs of living while having medical costs add to the weight. In 2017 Lorne was diagnosed with primary liver cancer, there were many medical appointments. In January 2018 Lorne underwent a surgery—the plan was to do a Resection of his liver. During the surgery the doctors discovered they couldn’t go ahead as planned and closed Lorne up again, he then underwent targeted radiation . All these appointments have meant traveling to Edmonton hospital(s) which again, cost time from work, fuel, meals, parking, etc. After his recovery time ---which Lorne likely shortened---he yet again returned to work.
So, here we are in 2019. Lorne has again been to doctors & the cancer is as relentless as he is. Lorne has undergone another stronger blast of radiation to attempt to reduce the size of tumours. This time around he’s been quite ill (although he’d gone back to work again). Recently, while at work he found the pain unbearable and went to the hospital in Fox Creek where he was admitted. He’s been diagnosed with Radiation Colitis.
It has been difficult to meet the regular costs of living but life has truly become overwhelming for this couple. They did not ask for this assistance---we, as friends surrounding them decided this was the only tangible way we could truly attempt to help. They were reluctant to accept this assistance as they don’t feel worthy. Trust me, they are!
