Peter Mitchell passed away on Saturday March 3, leaving his wife Flor and his 3 young children Gordie (6) Andy (4) and Laurabelle (9 weeks).
Peter was a life long friend of ours (since the 5th grade) and had been an in-school psychologist for the New York City Dept.of Education for more than 35 years.
He was about to begin his final year in an inner city school in the Bronx before his long awaited retirement when he was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive cancer which he fought courageously for 7 months before it took him from his family.
Peter had waited all of his life to become a father and sadly just before retiring to spend all of his time with his young family this terrible illness ... took him from his family and has left them alone.
Peter was an only child and his parents are long gone and Flor and the children have no other family support system in the US and so we are trying to help fill this void through Go Fund Me.
Peter put his life and his career into the NYC School system and was totally dedicated to his students and now we are asking for assistance for his own children.
The funds that we raise will go to basic and hopefully short term living expenses; food .shelter,clothing,health care and the anticipated legal and accounting expenses which will be needed to sort out and collect Peter’s NYC Dept of Education pension, social security payments and any savings that he had.
We are currently working with his widow Flor to retain an attorney and/or accountant to work with her to sort through these matters and to collect what is due to Peter as quickly as possible, and they will also manage whatever funds are contributed.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help Flor and the kids pay their bills and meet living expenses over the next few months while Peter’s estate is sorted out and organized. All funds due are collected for the Mitchell family.
