Peter Mabula's Brain Surgery

Many of you have had the opportunity to meet Peter somewhere along his amazing journey through life. For those of you who have not...meet Peter Mabula!
I met Peter through my work helping to develop Emergency Medicine in East Africa. Peter is the first and only Tanzanian Emergency Medicine Physician in his area of Northern Tanzania and we work together at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center.
Over the past year, Peter had been having increasing headaches, which were attributed to his grueling schedule in residency along with all of the other amazing work he has done with the African Federation for Emergency Medicine, The Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania, and the Same Qualities Foundation.
Unfortunately, these headaches were not the result of stress, but rather from a growing pituitary tumor. It is now almost the size of a plum, has grown around one of his carotid arteries and is pushing on his optic nerves. Peter needs surgery.
After much deliberation occurring around the globe, Peter decided that he would have the surgery done in India with a well known Neurosurgeon who happens to be currently training another Tanzanian surgeon colleague of ours.
This surgery is extremely specialized skull based endoscopic surgery and factoring in airfare, living costs before and after the surgery and a few incidentals we estimate the whole package will cost about $20,000. This is, of course, a rough estimate and so I have added a cushion knowing all too well that things don't always go as planned, which is why the goal is listed as $25,000. (original post had $18,000 goal...they neglected to tell us of 25% taxes and a few other fees)
At this point, any unused (or excess) funds raised can be returned to you at your request, or otherwise will be used to educate another awesome Tanzanian physician through their Emergency Medicine Residency.
Since the moment Mabula and I met, his incredible work ethic, faith, positive outlook on life and enormous generosity has inspired me to be a better person.
