My son, Peter White and his wife Diane - have lived in west Houston for 17 years - they have neighbors who have lived there for 40 years and that area has NEVER BEEN FLOODED.
HARVEY has changed all that. Peter and Diane moved as much as they could to the upper floor when the street started to flood and the water came up into their front yard several feet. With all the rain - the water rose but they still felt confident about it, as did all their neighbors, BUT when the Addicks and Barker-Cypress dams were opened, that did it. The water rose quickly and came into their lower floor.
Peter stopped one of the rescue boats that appeared in the neighborhood and that is how they, their 3 dogs and a cat were rescued and taken to dry land, from where they were taken to a hotel and the next day they were able to get more space in another hotel where they still are. Like many people in west Houston they still cannot get into the neighborhood as the waters continued to rise, because of the water from the dams that had to be opened.
I am appealing for help for them as no one would ever imagine this could happen to them in a neighborhood that had never seen anything like this. They do not have flood insurance. They will need all the help they can get to rebuild from this disaster. Please help as soon as you can.
Diane is very active in the Houston area with Rescue for Animals and now it is their turn to be helped. Please do what you can to help them.
