Persephone at Brighton Fringe 2023

Donation protected
We will be taking Persephone (written by Ami Sayers, Abi Smith and Mollie Semple) to the Brighton Fringe in 2023. We are a collective of emerging theatre makers interested in creating stories with women and queerness at their centres. We are looking to raise £600 in order to help match potential ACE funding or to buffer the cast's pay and make our performance more accessible in the event that ACE funding doesn't come through.

We will be performing at the Rotunda Bubble in Brighton at 4:30 16th - 19th May and at 2:30 20th - 21st May.

Summary:
This is a queer, female-led modern retelling of the Greek myth Persephone. Persephone is a young girl from Essex who can’t help her mum with her depression and can’t make peace with the girls who bully her at school. Suddenly, a figure appears both in her dreams and then in real life who asks her if she wants to go to another world and leave the constrictions of this one behind. This is a play about wildness, mothers and daughters, desire and society’s efforts to make women as small as they can possibly be.
