Permafrost Theatre Collective's Fall Fundraiser

Donation protected

Hello!

Permafrost Theatre Collective has been connecting and growing a community of theater artists since 2018, and we are looking for support for our Fall 2021 Season: The Freeze.

The Freeze is an incubation series that is open to the public and allows artists to craft brand new works. With your help, we can continue to foster exciting pieces for the next generation of theater-makers.

OUR MISSION

Permafrost Theatre Collective is a multidisciplinary collaboration of artists dedicated to creating bold new work and reimagining classics. Our storytelling is rooted in the ensemble and puts communication and empathy above all else.

The Collective acts as a resource and platform for artists of diverse backgrounds to create in whatever medium effectively presents itself. First, last, and foremost; the work created here is to act as an axe for the frozen sea inside us, to break through the Permafrost of the human condition.

ABOUT THE FREEZE

Our season kicks off with the newest work from playwright Thomas Burns Scully, Not the White Stripes. This show tells a story parallel to that of celebrated Detroit rock band The White Stripes.

In October, we have Poe’s Children conceived by Christina Rose Ashby. Exploring nine poems from Edgar Allen Poe, Ashby hopes to answer questions about aging, dreams, and love through devised dance, scene study, and music.

Our season concludes with two new plays by our guest artists, Cris Eli Blak, Nicole Orabona, and Nathan Leigh.

Brown Bodies on a Blue Earth by Cris Eli Blak tells the story of a distant, or not so distant, future where the sun has gotten dangerously close to Earth, leading to all of the rich (and mostly white) people to load into spaceships and relocate to the moon, leaving the poor (and mostly minority) people on Earth to literally burn.

Lady Scientist, conceived by Nicole Orabona and Nathan Leigh, was born from a pandemic spent watching sci-fi films where female leads in STEM were relegated to the sidelines of their male counterparts. This devised piece explores the trope of the “Lady Scientist:” The woman who is there to fix things but not take credit, perhaps be a love interest, but certainly not deserving of her own character arc or development.

WHAT WE NEED

In order for these artists to incubate their ideas, we are asking for $4000 dollars in contributions to give a small $150 stipend to our artists.

We can make a difference by raising important funding to support a total of 28 young artists in an industry that has been heavily impacted these past 18 months.

SPONSOR AN ARTIST

If there is a particular artist you would like to support, you can ask to contribute directly to their stipend. This can be kept anonymous.

We are also able to take tax-deductible donations through Fractured Atlas

Thank you for much for supporting Permafrost Theater Collective, we appreciate our ever-growing community and are so grateful!
