Peri (Peri Winkel) is a nine-year-old Lesser Sulpher Crested Cockatoo. She turned nine in March. She is a happy, playful, curious, and loving cockatoo that acts more like a puppy than a persnickety bird. She plays fetch. She hunts rainbows. She never bites. The one time she accidentally bit me while going after a toy she snuggled up to me to apologize. She plays fetch and taps on speakers while listening to classical music from KUSC. She was named as a joke (Peri Winkel) to mix with my last name, but I found out after naming her that Peri are a Persian fairy. Peri are exquisite, winged spirits renowned for their beauty. She certainly is that.

She is currently fighting to live and needs emergency surgery to remove a 3mm foreign body that contains lead that is poisoning her to death. She became very sick last month. Normally this would require thirty days of medication and feeding to strengthen her for surgery, but because the lead is affecting her nervous system and G.I. tract, it is impairing her ability to eat and maintain weight. She needs emergency surgery in order to stop the flow of poisons before she loses more weight. Surgery at this point is the only possible option to give her a fighting chance to live and keep gracing us with her light.

I have never done a GoFundMe, but I am trying everything in my power to keep her winged spirit with us. The goal almost covers her medical, surgery bills, and recovery bills. Any remainder will be donated to a charity for birds or be used to help fund another bird in need in the future.
