We have been making all the sad insurance calls, cancelling services, etc. We have also been looking for housing and thinking of next steps. At the same time providing stability to our children, who also lost their beloved school.

<div>Their lovely little casita was destroyed in the Eaton Canyon fire on Wednesday, January 8th as well as their beloved school: Oak Knoll Montessory. We have no idea how this catostrophy will affect their lives and mental health.

<div>They have lost absolutely <strong>everything.</strong>
</div>

<div>The Perez Salas family, like many of us, are immigrants. Originally from Venezuela, they found community and a place to call home in Los Angeles. If you know what it's like to move from your home country and create roots elsewhere, you know how important it is to finally have a place one can call home.

<div>And now, with the fire, all of this has been destroyed.
</div>

<div>The Perez Salas family have no family anywhere near in the United States. As many families in exile, close ones are usually oceans away. They are relying on the support of all us Angelenos and our NELA community.

<div>They are resilient, and they will rise again from these ashes.
