Amici, oggi è il mio compleanno!
Magari qualcuno di voi vorrebbe farmi un regalo, inviandomi 5 euro (o anche 2) oltreoceano. Perché?
Perché E. è un'adolescente di 14 anni che vive con la nonna invalida e il fratellino. Sua madre è morta quest'anno di febbre gialla e il padre non c'era e continua a non esserci.
E. deve fare la decima classe (le superiori terminano alla dodicesima) ma per farlo ha bisogno di pagare l'immatricolazione e il trasporto. Il fratello minore va ancora alle medie, che sono gratuite e vicino casa, e una zia aiuta con la spesa, spesso non sufficiente.
Lasciare la scuola e cercarsi un lavoro (quale prospettiva si può avere a 14 anni?) sembra la sua unica possibilità...
E. è generosa e volenterosa, si occupa della casa, della nonna, del fratello e a volte anche dei vicini... ma soprattutto E. vorrebbe continuare a studiare, me lo ha detto con le lacrime agli occhi... ve lo immaginate? Piangere per la voglia di studiare...

Maybe some of you would like to make me a gift, sending me 5 euros (or even 2) overseas. Why?
Because E. is a 14 years old teenager who lives with her disabled grandmother and her little brother. His mother died this year of yellow fever and the father was not there and continues not to be.
E. has to attend 10th class (high school finishes with the 12th) but to do so she needs to pay the registration and the transport. The younger brother still goes to middle school, which is free and close to home, and their aunt helps with food, often not enough.
Leaving school and looking for a job (which prospect could you have at your 14?) seems like her only chance .
E. is generous and hardworking, she takes care of the house, grandmother, brother and sometimes even neighbours ... but above all E. would like to continue studying, she told me with tears in her eyes ... can you imagine it? Crying for this desire...
