<div>I had concluded that story with Happy Days.

<div>Saturday 20th June had become one of my saddest days.
</div>
<div>That morning my little dog Pepe at Warrens Hall nature reserve, had been viciously and brutally attacked by another dog.
</div>
<div>I had only let Pepe out of the car at the car park a few minutes, when a gentleman came from the reserve to the car park with his dog.
</div>
<div>The dog jumped into his owners car, while the gentleman called his other dog, a cross staff bull terrier, which was still by the entrance of the reserve.
</div>
<div>Pepe had walked around a parked car and came face to face with the other dog.
</div>
<div>Without warning the dog attacked Pepe, biting him and tossing him like a rag doll.
</div>
<div>I and the dog owner rushed to part the dog from Pepe, it couldn’t have been anymore than 20 seconds, but the damage had been done.
</div>
<div>The owner of the dog got him in his car, as Pepe scrambled under a parked car, dragging his left leg behind him, this while blood poured from his mouth.
</div>
<div>Pepe was shaking, traumatised and in pain. He wouldn’t let anyone get close to him.
</div>
<div>I drove my car right next to the parked car where Pepe lay underneath.
</div>
<div>I managed to coax him out and lifted him into the car.
</div>
<div>My first concern was to get him to the vets as quickly as possible.
</div>
<div>I took him to Blacks vets hospital Dudley and rushed him in.
</div>
<div>The vet examined him and diagnosed a fractured rear leg and swelling and bites on the body.
</div>
<div>Pepe was in a lot of pain, but before the vet could administrate pain killers, he at to have blood test.
</div>
<div>This was to ensure that his organs were functioning correctly.
</div>
<div>It seemed like an eternity while waiting for the results, my stomach turning with every heart beat.
</div>
<div>The results of the blood test showed that his organs were functioning correctly, just a slight murmur of the heart, with this Pepe was given pain killers including morphine. 
</div>
<div>Pepe now had to have a X-ray, that all his injuries could be established.
</div>
<div>The wait for the results seemed to go on forever.
</div>
<div>Eventually the vet came and told me what the x rays showed.
</div>
<div>His initial fear of the leg fracture was correct, but worse than imagined, there were two areas where the bone had been completely snapped.
</div>
<div>Bite marks and bruise swelling on the body and around the injured leg.
</div>
<div>I could only imagine his suffering, the pain that he had to endure, I felt guilty of not being there to protect him, of preventing this from happening to him.An intended pleasant morning walk had turned into a nightmare.
</div>
<div>The vet explained to me that the broken leg bone required surgery asp, however there would be a risk due to his age, that during the procedure  that his heart could give up and he could die.
</div>
<div>As he spoke these words, my heart sank to the floor. In my mind, I prayed over and over again, please God don’t let Pepe die.
</div>
<div>The initial cost for the treatment that he was receiving was £2,300. A deposit of £1,150  had to be paid before the treatment could begin.
</div>
<div>That was paid, with the estimated cost of surgery being an extra £6,000. Again a deposit of 50% would have to be paid before the procedure could begin.
</div>
<div>His other wounds had to be cleaned and dressed, his broken leg bandaged.
</div>
<div>Pepe would be on drips of fluids, given boosts of pain killers and made as comfortable as possible.
</div>
<div>Unable to see him,I had to leave him there in the vets care, I couldn’t think straight, but had to make the most important decision, surgery or not.
</div>
<div>Without it he would suffer, with it, there would be a chance he could die.
</div>
<div>Before I left the veterinary practice the vet emphasised that £3000 and the out standing initial cost must be paid prior to the surgery procedure could begin.
</div>
<div>I went home feeling deflated, my stomach turning, horrible thoughts of Pepe dying  on the operating table racing through my mind. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t stop these thoughts of not having Pepe come home.
</div>
<div>I tried to phone the vets that evening to check on him, but had no answer, 
</div>
<div>7.15am  Sunday morning I received a call from the vets. My heart pounding fearing the worse, however it was the night nurse, calling to letting me know that he was ok. They had made him as comfortable as possible, monitoring him throughout the night. He hadn’t eaten and had also a procedure to help the function of his bladder and toilet needs. 
</div>
<div>I made an arrangement to go to him, take some food and treats that he always liked.
</div>
<div>My two granddaughter who are in my care, went with me to see Pepe.
</div>
<div>It broke my heart seeing him the way he was. He had to be shaven to show the extent of the bite marks on his little frail body, his little leg bandaged, a big collar around his neck and the sadness in his eyes.
</div>
<div>There was little response from Pepe, understandable after the trauma inflicted on him. 
</div>
<div>The emphasis was made to me again, that a payment had to be made prior to any further care or procedure taking place. 
</div>
<div>A decision for a planned surgery had to be made that day, the money for the outstanding charge which was now £1650 and £3000 deposit would also have to be found and paid prior to any future care plan or surgery.
</div>
<div>That afternoon i received a phone call from the vet. He asked if I had made a decision as to what I wanted to happen. 
</div>
<div>Although the emphasis was about a payment required, this before any further procedure of care or surgery could take place i could tell by the tone of his voice that is own concern was for Pepe’s welfare, that the procedure for payment was the company policy and was out side of his hands.
</div>
<div>I asked if I didn’t have the money there and then could I have a monthly pay plan, that the surgery could go a head.
</div>
<div>The answer was no, we don’t do that I’m afraid.
</div>
<div>I urge everyone who has a pet dog, a family member, have insurance for situations like this.
</div>
<div>It has happened to me, it could happen to you. 
</div>
<div>And please no matter how well you think you know your pet, keep him on a lead when in the vicinity of other dogs.
</div>
<div>The owner of this Staff cross bull terrier dog ,which attacked Pepe, said that he had never done anything like this before.
</div>
<div>There can always be a first time, don’t let the first time happen to your pet.
</div>
<div>Pepe is my world, he was my mothers dog, bought for her has a puppy when my father passed away.
</div>
<div>She dotted on the little fella, he was her life companion, her joy and happiness, he gave her a reason to live, though she wanted to be with my father.
</div>
<div>She herself has now passed and Pepe as been in my care ever since.
</div>
<div>Whenever I look at Pepe, I see my mother looking lovingly down to him.
</div>
<div>Pepe is her living soul, gentle, loving and caring, I would see it everyday in his eyes, my late mother.
</div>
<div>This has been an hard lesson to learn for both me and the Staff bull terrier cross.
</div>
<div>Please do not put yourself in the same position of learning a hard lesson.
</div>
<div>When I mentioned a coincidence, this time it is about the risk to Pepe during surgery. The procedure is required, but he could die on the operating table.
</div>
<div>My youngest son, the father of the two girls in my care, has the same predicament.   
</div>
<div>June 29th his oldest daughter’s birthday, he has surgery planned for him to have a cancerous Kidney removed.
</div>
<div>Due to his ill health with breathing problems, he has been warned that he may not survive the surgery procedure.
</div>
<div>He had also been told that the after care, would only try twice to get him to breath himself, off the machine.
</div>
<div>If he didn’t have the surgery it could possibly mean that the cancer could and would spread throughout his body, eventually leading to a painful death.
</div>
<div>Coincidences, pure bad luck, a warning, a test , who knows?
</div>
<div>I had planned to be there at Sheffield Hospital, to support him. He has no family where he lives in Derbyshire.
</div>
<div>If I get Pepe home, I wouldn’t be-able
</div>
<div> to leave him on his own. He would need constant care, I was told by the surgeon, that it could take up to twenty six weeks for recovery.
</div>
<div>Life is not always sweet, sometimes you have to swallow a bitter pill.
</div>
<div>I had been told to try a fund me for Pepe, to go towards the cost of his care.
</div>
<div>I have asked at the cafe at Bumble Hole if they would support this.
</div>
<div>I BELIVE that they would have a collection box for any donations made.
</div>
<div>I would not ask, but know how dog lovers care for all pets. Many of you may of seen Pepe on the reserve during his happy days.
</div>
<div>As mentioned any amount of donation would be a big help.
</div>
<div>I will endeavour to get a bank account in his name, for bank donations.
</div>
<div>For my son, I can not do anything but pray for him and support him.
</div>
