People's Fridge Brixton

We went and made London's first community Fridge. Huffington Post talked about it. Timeout talked about it. We chatted to Jamie Oliver about it.

Now we want to do 2 things:
1) Employ someone part-time to make People's Fridge Brixton the best it can be. There's lots to do, trust us.

More about the Fridge
London's first community fridge is a public fridge where people can give spare food, and those who want food can take it. It's a food revolution, one fridge at a time!
Why bother?
Because people and businesses have spare, edible food. In fact, in Lambeth every person wastes on average £9 worth of food per week.
It can be hard to get that food to people who can use it. A community fridge provides a secure and open place where we can help stop food waste and food poverty.
Who are we?
We are Brixton residents, food activists, members of Impact Hub Brixton , traders in Pop Brixton, market traders, a group of Londoners who hate food poverty and hate food waste.
How does it work?
We manage the fridge. We make sure that the food in the fridge is within date and safe to eat. We clean it. The fridge is open for all to contribute to and take from but we keep an eye on it.
Where will the Fridge live long-term?
We are working with Lambeth Council to find a safe and viable location for the Fridge long-term. We want the Fridge to be as accessible to the public as possible.
For the moment, it's living inside Pop Brixton whilst we trial how it works. That way we can keep an eye on it, and make sure we have a safe, healthy Fridge for Brixton.
Why do we need your help?
As you can imagine, getting a project like the People's Fridge off the ground takes a lot of time and effort. So far, we've all been volunteering our time. But that can't continue forever.
We want to pay someone to make People's Fridge Brixton a super cool success story. Our first recruit would:
+ build relationships with local and national food traders
+ reach out to groups of people who can most benefit from the donated food
+ find ways for the project to be sustainable long-term
We also want to pay for the costs of a 'Bootcamp' to help other people set up community fridges around London and beyond.

Come along to Open Project Night , on every Monday from 6.30pm at Impact Hub Brixton. It's a free community incubator for good ideas that shape the future of Lambeth.
