Penarth Sounds

During this time of social isolation, residents of Penarth are already showing great community spirit in setting up volunteering groups to assist isolated and vulnerable individuals. We’ve started a radio station, free to listen to online, to encourage local individuals and groups to share music, stories, and advice on ways to support each other. In this time of crisis so much of our media, both news and entertainment, comes from a central source; I believe that our community needs a new, fixed point of focus to continue building the Penarth community spirit in this time of crisis and beyond. Some of the radio programmes include: A wide range of music shows Interview programmes - meeting Penarth-based artists and makers, local historians, storytellers Film & TV programme - reviews and suggestions of what to watch on TV in the coming week, Primary and secondary school student music request show - pupils send in voice recordings of themselves making requests and dedications for friends and family, Care Home Requests - music request show for local care home residents to get the music they love on the radio, Local news and information from local businesses - what are businesses offering local people in the way of support? How can residents support their community businesses? Kids Quiz, Live classical music from the Penarth Chamber Music Festival, Childrens’ and youth involvement - Involve the schools and find out how we can encourage pupils to make music and speech radio programmes The primary mission behind Penarth Sounds is to bring the community together. I hope to encourage around 50 people to produce programmes of varying types, ensuring that many different demographics and community interests are represented. If an individual or group finds that there is nothing on the radio station that suits their needs, then the directors will be easily contactable to discuss producing a programme about or with that group. In addition, I hope to have several programmes in Welsh on the schedule. And we've got a special Christmas Pantomime too! Come and join us!
