Peloton for ALS Family

Donation protected
In December 2018 Kristen Hellman’s world was shattered when her husband and father of her 2 young children was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 35. There is no cure for ALS and the life expectancy is 2-5 years after diagnoses. Since Tyson was diagnosed, Kristen has been his constant caregiver. She has stood by him as his health rapidly declined and watched as he lost his ability to speak, eat, walk, and breath. Sadly on September 22nd, Kristen stood by him as he took his last breath. Every day with Tyson was a gift and Kristen has sacrificed so much to not only be his constant caregiver, but also the sole caregiver to their 2 young children. Earlier this year, I submitted Kristen's name to Peloton's comeback story bike give away. She was so excited and hopeful to receive this gift, that could really lift her spirits and help her physical and mental health. Unfortunately Peloton did not choose her, so now I am asking for donations to buy Kristen a peloton bike. If anyone deserves this, it is Kristen.   A Peloton Bike would be such a gift for this incredible woman who has given up so much to care for Tyson and their children. Kristen was once a D1 athlete and semi-pro soccer player. After her athletic career was over, she remained a runner and enjoyed cycling classes. She once went for a run after Tyson was diagnosed and commented on how good it felt, sadly though she could not find time to leave the home, as Tyson declined and she could no longer go for runs. For Kristen, this wouldn’t be a physical journey, but more of a mental journey. Kristen is now facing this world as a single mother without her husband by her side. Finding time outside of her home to workout will not be easy. I hope the peloton community, family and friends can rally around Kristen and gift her a Peloton to help her with her comeback story. She has been standing in Tyson’s Corner not only as his caregiver, but also as a voice for him. She has helped to raise funds for his care, walked in ALS walks, and even started blogging about their life in order to spread the word about ALS. She has stood in his Corner, and now I want to stand in hers and raise this incredible woman up. My goal is to raise enough money to purchase the bike, accessories, and a year subscription. Any donations above my goal will go towards the Hellman family trust that will help with any lingering medical bills and funeral costs, as well as the education of Kristen and Tyson's two young children. If you wish to learn more, you can visit Kristen's blog and read Tyson's obituary, which are both linked below.
