Pele's International Education

Experiential learning is what I seek.
We don't learn to swim by sitting in the sand.
The Pacific North West has taught me a great deal. The land is challenging and the people are creative. In this temperate rain forest I have found my passions that needs further study- outdoor education and cultural anthroplogy.
Currently I am an outdoor educator, and a craftswoman, teaching at a forest school called Trackers Earth. I teach children to be capable in their bodies and communal in their hearts. The youth of America are a complex bunch, growing up in a technological age unlike any other in previous human history; one that puts your life on display to the world. Social and cultural dynamics have shifted requiring us to consider public opinion at all times. For youth, this means a harder time developing trust in self. To support our younger generations through problem solving opportunites and tactile challenges we encourage a more capable generation to carry us forward.
Thus I am leaving America in October 2018, and returning in May 2019, to circle the earth and start to learn more of the skills that got humanity this far; weaving, ceramics, and blacksmithing sprecifically. Skills I already practice but through a limited lense. Through studying abroad I will open that lense as I expirience new cultures, languages, and lands.
My journey will begin in Calca, Peru. There I will study weaving and Andean culture at Apulaya- Center for Andean Culture.
From Peru I will head to Europe, where I will meat renound blacksmiths andpractice wilderness living in the harsh winter.
After Europe I will head to Bodoland India to learn from fine silk and cotton cloth weavers.
( if funds allow) I will then travel to  Australia, to practice primal movements and desert survival.
Last, but not least, I will journey to Japan to study ceramics and archery in their traditonal style and form. Returning to Portland mid may to prepare for another summer with Trackers Earth.
Your donations will go directly to my air fare for this journey, daily living, and back to the communities that have graciously invited me in.
I am offering TRADE as well for donations, scroll down to add my handcrafted stoneware to your kitchen.
I thank you for your support on this endeavor to diversify my cultural knowledge and expand my range as an educator.
