Peggie's Funeral and Memorial Fund

This is the essay I never wanted to write...
Peggie Quick Balcom was a blazing light of kindness, warmth and love because she, like no one else I know, reflected Jesus. As you may already know, the world is a bit colder and darker now that she was called home very early on the morning of May 20, 2017 while on a girls-weekend-out with her daughter: Caralie, sister: Annie, sister-in-law: Jane and niece: Rose in Brooklyn. Peggie was 52 years old.
Peggie was more than special. Of course, as her big brother, you might expect me to write that, but I happen to know that if you knew her, you would say the same. If Peggie was in a room, you would know it sooner or later (usually sooner); she was either at the mic, singing, on the floor dancing or working the room making sure she loved on as many people as possible. If you were glum, you couldn't help but feel better after talking with her. The last decade, she poured her life into teenage, pregnant mothers and their newborns to give them hope. She trained the new moms by example how to be a caring, nurturing mother to their children.
Her final hours were amazing, but not unusual for Peggie.
By all accounts, she was having the best day of her life with the girls. On first arriving to NY the day before, Peggie struck up a conversation with a complete stranger on the subway. It just so happened this guy is a promoter for a local Cuban band and he invited her to come and check it out at a Mexican restaurant in the middle of Brooklyn. Of course, this would be the plan for Friday evening!
The gang met the promoter kid at Guadalupe (the afore mentioned restaurant) and the girls sat down to enjoy their meal, the music and each other’s' company. While they were there, they danced (naturally). Peggie got up and looked like she knew what she was doing, so much so that an accomplished Salsa dancer got up and danced a while with her. Peggie was in her element and the crowd was duly impressed!
But that was not the end of the night. After the band finished, the promoter who had overheard Peggie and Annie talking about Earth Wind & Fire, invited them to a near-by club that spins '70s disks he thought they would like. Well, that was a no-brainer, so off they went, Peggie chattering with her new, best friend way in the lead, followed by the rest as they navigated the streets of Bushwick to the club. They danced late into the night, basking in the joie de vivre that always enveloped Peggie and spread to whomever was within her blast radius.
During the Uber-ride back to the BnB where they were staying, Annie says Peggie was, "… laughing like she used to with Laura Soderwall when they were up late -- that teenage girl, irresistible sort of giggling. Her laughing was making me laugh in the front seat."
When they got out of the cab, Peggie died as they were walking, two doors down from their B&B. She slowed, looked into the garden to her right, said, "Oh, here it is!" and she was gone. What was a shocking end for us, was simply a transition from one party to another for her.
If you would like to contribute to the expenses incurred with Peggie's passing, we are giving you the opportunity to do so here. Hope House is also raising money for the family and if you have already given, please do not feel like you need to here. The moneys will go to the same expenses.

Of course we would be remiss if we did not also send Peggie off without a dance party, but the family is not quite ready for that so it will be announced later to be held somewhere in the SF South Bay Area. We will keep you posted on that one.
