Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money for Shetland Health Board Endowment Fund, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about Shetland Health Board Endowment Fund: Over 600 patients from Shetland travel off island to Aberdeen or Glasgow for MRI scans each year, a round trip of over 450 miles. The Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal hopes to raise 2 million so that a MRI Scanner can be located in Shetland which would bring quicker access to diagnostic tests, reduce inconvenience and the need to travel off island. An MRI scan is used to diagnose and monitor a wide variety of conditions and the number of patients who need them is steadily increasing.
More about the event. In a very short time almost 40 NHS staff members (most of us very little to no experience) have thrown themselves forward to have a go at kayaking in order to do our part in trying to raise money for a cause that is incredibly close to our hearts. We see, on a daily basis, what it means for our patients to need an MRI scan and we would love to be able to provide this. Most of us are nervous to terrified :O. On a serious note though we will be kayaking 4 miles weather permitting from Burra to Scalloway (which is not an easy feat for ammatures) on the morning of the 6th of April.
Sea Kayak Shetland have offered their guides and equipment along with the support of the canoe club, Shetland Flyer Aerial media will be capturing drone footage and Connor the goat will be welcoming us at the finish line. These local businesses have ALL offered their services free of charge as again they are passionate about this cause. We have long way to go but it will have a major impact on the treatment provision for our patients so we appreciate every bit of support we can get and every penny counts.
