OVERWIEW
Eight million puppies are needed annually to fulfil the demand in Europe. Far too many dogs, especially puppies, are sold suspiciously with falsified documents and unknown background. We need to know where and how these puppies are bred, sold and transported.
The illegal dog trade is a typical example of Transnational Organized Crime (T.O.C) where profit comes first, animal welfare and consumer protection second.
Pedigree Dream will be probably the most comprehensive documentary film ever made about dog trade in Europe. It is filmed in the following countries: Romania, Finland, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Belgium, Estonia and Czech Republic.
Pedigree Dream gives audience a thorough view over the dog trade with supporting narratives from more than 50 people. Those people include border officials, European Parliament members, politicians, police force representatives, legal and illegal breeders, dog owners, consumers who bought puppies online, officials, veterinarians, animal welfare activists, rescue workers, animal identification experts, lawyers, specialists and researchers.

Se necesitan ocho millones de cachorros anualmente para satisfacer la demanda en Europa. Demasiados perros, especialmente cachorros, se venden sospechosamente con documentos falsificados e historia desconocidos. Necesitamos saber dónde y cómo se crían, venden y transportan estos cachorros.
El comercio ilegal de perros es un ejemplo típico de Crimen Organizado Transnacional (T.O.C) donde la ganancia es lo primero, el bienestar de animal y la protección del consumidor segundo.
Pedigree Dream será probablemente el documental más completo jamás realizado sobre el comercio de perros en Europa. Está filmado en los siguientes países: Rumania, Finlandia, España, Alemania, Lituania, Polonia, Bélgica, Estonia y República Checa.
Pedigree Dream ofrece a la audiencia una visión completa del comercio de perros con narrativas de más de 50 personas. Esas personas incluyen funcionarios fronterizos, miembros del Parlamento Europeo, políticos, representantes de las fuerzas policiales, criadores legales e ilegales, dueños de perros, consumidores que compraron cachorros online, funcionarios, veterinarios, animalistas, expertos en identificación animal, abogados, especialistas e investigadores.

STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR/WRITER/PRODUCER - - - DECLARACIÓN
I started the background and research work for Pedigree Dream already in 2010. I saw a Spanish online article which stated that Spain is a Mecca for illegally sold dogs. I called the journalist and she told me even more shocking news: A Guardia Civil representative unofficially said that 80% of puppies sold in Spain have origin from Eastern Europe and all the documents, passports, and even pedigree are false.

Comencé el trabajo de investigación y antecedentes para Pedigree Dream en 2010. Vi un artículo en larazon.es que decía que España es una meca para los perros vendidos ilegalmente. Llamé a la periodista y ella me dijo una noticia aún más impactante: un representante de Guardia Civil dijo que oficialmente que el 80% de los cachorros vendidos en España tienen origen en Europa del Este y todos los documentos, pasaportes e incluso pedigrí son falsos.

My first reaction was that this cannot be true. So, I started to investigate the dog trade in Spain and other European countries, and a cruel and ruthless world was exposed.
I felt that, as a film maker and dog enthusiast, I have a responsibility to tell and share all this horror to the public.
January 2018 I was privileged to start a collaboration with Four Paws International / Vier Pfoten and, finally after several years, the film project turned into reality and I had enough knowledge and tools to start the shootings.
To boost everything, between March 29th and April 28th I had a personal crowdfund campaign in Finland. The goal was to reach 25 000 euros (minimum goal was set to 8 700 euros). That campaign was successful. Thanks to 157 funders, the minimum goal was reached with a sum of 12 340 euros (gross).

Mi primera reacción fue que esto no puede ser cierto. Entonces, comencé a investigar el comercio de perros en España y otros países europeos, y se expuso un mundo cruel y despiadado.
Sentí que, como cineasta y entusiasta de los perros, tengo la responsabilidad de contar y compartir todo este horror al público.
Enero de 2018 tuve el privilegio de comenzar una colaboración con Four Paws International / Vier Pfoten y, finalmente, después de varios años, el proyecto de la película se convirtió en realidad y tenía suficientes conocimientos y herramientas para comenzar los rodajes.
Para mejorar todo, entre el 29 de marzo y el 28 de abril tuve una campaña de crowdfund personal en Finlandia. El objetivo era alcanzar los 25 000 euros (el objetivo mínimo se fijó en 8 700 euros). Esa campaña tuvo éxito. Gracias a 157 financiadores, el objetivo mínimo se alcanzó con una suma de 12 340 euros (brutos).
So, why I need another crowdfund campaign? During the various interviews and meetings with people dealing with the themes of the subjects of Pedigree Dream, many new angles and visions have popped up, and it is a must to do some additional shootings and interviews because I want to this film to be extremely complete as possible.
And most importantly, already two broadcast companies (National public service broadcast companies in Finland and Sweden) has shown promising interested to Pedigree Dream documentary, but they cannot yet make any commitments until they have seen the whole film.
Alongside the responsible and sustainable breeding, I want also to show to the world, that when we talk about buying a dog, adoption is an option.
I adopted recently two puppy mill mother dogs from a hellhole in the middle of Spanish urbanisation where 56 dogs were kept in 70m2 flat.
It has been heart breaking to see how these two little pearls, Patatita and Vida, have in a short time build trust again and how happy they are when they finally can live safe and joyful life without the fear of abuse.

Entonces, ¿por qué necesito otra campaña de crowdfund? Durante las diversas entrevistas y reuniones con personas que se ocupan de los temas de Pedigree Dream, han aparecido muchos nuevos ángulos y visiones, y es imprescindible hacer algunos filmación y entrevistas adicionales porque quiero que esta película sea lo más completa posible.
Y, lo que es más importante, ya dos compañías de televisión (Finlandia YLE y Suecia SVT) se han mostrado interés a este documental Pedigree Dream, pero no pueden hacer ningún compromiso hasta que hayan visto toda la película.
Junto con la cría responsable y sostenible, también quiero mostrarle al mundo que cuando hablamos de comprar un perro, la adopción es una opción.
Adopté recientemente dos perras (que son perras rescatado de una fábrica de cachorros)
Ha sido desgarrador ver cómo estas dos pequeñas perlas, Patatita y Vida, han creado confianza en poco tiempo y cuán felices son cuando finalmente viven una vida segura y alegre sin el temor de ser abusadas.

If we can reach our minimum donation goal of € 8,500, we can guarantee that the rest of the shootings can be executed in March-April 2019. And most importantly, the final film will be ready as targeted in September 2019.
The € 8 500 will cover the following production costs:
• Additional shootings in Germany, Spain, Lithuania and Estonia (Total 12 working days)
• Travelling costs
• Translation costs (think logging the filmed material and interview translations wrote into text document)
• Production insurance and location permits)
• Post production (Master editing, graphic design, sound editing, marketing material)
Our stretch goal of € 20,000 will allow us to produce this film with a higher production value, covering additional costs such as:
• +10 days of filming
• Additional equipment rentals
• Hiring a local assistant
• +3 additional b-roll filming (Illustration material for interviews)
