Pediatric Oncology Ward Renovation

My name is Abi Muthumani, and I am a 3rd year medical student studying abroad at Sri Ramachandra Medical College in India. A really special place in the free hospital of my college is the G Block Pediatric Oncology Ward. Many children in India who are diagnosed with childhood cancers unfortunately happen to come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and their families are often unable to pay for the expensive treatments. Our ward functions to give these children and their families free treatment. The first time I entered, I noticed the striking difference between the ward and the pediatric hospitals I have been to in America. I really wanted to see how I could make a positive impact. I was granted approval by the chancellor for my proposal to renovate the ward.
I am partnering with MedHope led by Dr. Julius Scott, a prominent pediatric hemato-oncologist, to renovate the pediatric ward. Our goal is to transform the ward to project a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Various studies give insight into the direct impact of hospital environment on patient health and recovery, especially among children. A ward filled with colors, murals, toys, and books would make the kids feel more at home.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 which will be used to paint the walls and improve the décor. We also will be purchasing a welcoming and inspiring sign for the entrance of the ward. Attached pictures show the current state of the ward and our proposed renovation ideas we hope to implement with the help of your donations(G Block renovation ideas). We are introducing the section in the ward that will be dedicated to donors who have contributed $100 or more. We will display the names of these contributors along with handprints of the patients.
