PANDEMIC RESPONSE FOR ARTISANS IN BANGLADESH

The outbreak of the Coronavirus in Bangladesh has resulted in a nationwide shutdown, which in turn, has put millions of employees out of work. Pebble is made up of over 10,000 women in 120 different centers across rural Bangladesh. Because of the current shutdown, these artisans are no longer able to work. Their only source of food is what they can grow on their small plots of land, and small handouts from local authorities, which is not nearly enough to sustain them.

GIVE $11 AND FEED A FAMILY FOR 2 WEEKS

A little bit can go a long way. Just $11 can feed a family for two weeks and provide them with the bare minimum of rice, lentils, oil, potatoes, and onions. Many of them grow veggies at their homesteads to accompany these essentials. We don't know how long the pandemic will last but we do know that the hunger has begun.

Kahiniwalla will match your funds for the first $1,100. We will continue to share with Pebble as long as donations come in and as long as there is a continued need.

INTERDEPENDENCE

In this unprecedented time of global suffering, our interconnectedness is becoming more and more apparent. Here in the USA, we depend daily on goods created by our fellow brothers and sisters around the world. For 10 years, Kahiniwalla has purchased knit baby hats, rattles, and blankets made with love by skilled artisans in Bangladesh, supplying them to over 1000 stockists throughout the US. This partnership not only brings well-designed goods to babies across our nation but it creates a living wage for artisans, who in turn can feed their families, send their children to school and navigate toward a future of their own making, full hope and possibility.

In Dhaka the capital, where women normally gather at the finishing center to put the finishing touches on Pebble toys before shipping them to us, the military is patrolling the streets to ensure people remain in their homes. While the women are able to purchase food from their savings, it will not last long, as their husbands are also out of work. This situation is dire and there is a very real danger of physical hunger. We are asking you to help us to provide food for the Pebble artisans during this time of suffering. Because when one human suffers, we all suffer. When this crisis passes, and it will pass, we want our partners at Pebble to emerge strong and healthy.
